Friendster Lo Down

Its been one week where i notice that friendter has a problem. Last week, i notice that from a 300 plus something friends, i only got 35 friends. I was shock at first but when i asked my friend about it, he said that friendster is maintaining their server. So thats it. Friendster is updating their server. For me its annoying, but i just hope that it will be fix.

Friendster and other Social Network Users by Age

If you will noticed that most of the Friendster and other social networking sites mebers are all teens. Yes, according to Rapleaf Study for social network said that, most social network is still dominated by 14-24 year olds.

Rapleaf undertook a study on 49.3 million people in our database (old 14-74)the study was coducted through the social networks such as Friendster, Myspace, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Flickr. According to the study, Women and the 14-24 year olds are more likely to use Friendster, Myspace and Facebook than other social networks (the 14-24 year old age bracket represents 65.5% and 66.25% of total users respectively.

Accodring to the study of Rapleaf it is said that women spend more time on the social networks drawing up and nurturing relationships, while the men are less likely to spend as much hour nurturing relationship as they are transacting.

Simple Text to Moving Pictures and Glittering Text Comments

Having many friends on friendster is one of the coolest things in friendster and on other social networks. Having so many friends will most likely get you so many comments, especially to your closes friends. It may be a simple text, moving pictures or gif images and glittering text comments. From anime pictures, hardcore, rocker comments, hiphop, mmorpg, cute cartoon characters, princesses pictures and so on… Friendster really has gone from simple to improved social network. I remember when I joined friendster 3 years ago, most of my friends’ comments on my profile was simple text. Html codes and css are not yet in its features. I remember that the comment before was called testimonials. But as time goes by, friendster has evolved. The comment section can now be added by html codes and css so that pictures and glittering images will appear on one’s profile. Having this feature really makes Friendster a really cool social network and also makes everyone’s profile looks cool, beautiful and can be personalized.

Friendster Text Alert Dissappointment

Last week i posted i here about the Friendster Text Alert, the new friendster feature for Philippines and whole Asia. With this service and new feature, it will help all user to get an update of his or her profile and its friends. Unfortunately, the service is only good for all of those paying users. Meaning, you can avail this feature if you subscribe in it. Every alert and update will be send to you directly via mobile phone but is charge for every alert you receive. Every message receive is charge. In the Philippines they charge PHP 2.50 (Globe/Smart), PHP 2.00 (Sun) per text message.

With this kind of amount they charge to every subscriber, it only gives us disappointment. Service in almost all social network are free, so i guess friendster shoul also follow and just give this feature for free.

Ever visit the classified section of friendster? From time to time, an avid friendster user will visit this section. Mostly business related. But did you know that the classified section of friendster can offer more service? Yes, it will cater still on socializing, and this is the personal section. In this section you will see many subsection will cater to your need. For example, you need a female friend near your location, then friendster classified will help you with that. Whatever your preference, it will give you a service. But there is a cons in this service too. You may ask, what is it. Then i can say that its the poeple.Classified section of friendster lack people. Unlike other classifed places such as the Craigslist, friendster don't have a good number of people visiting the classified ads compare to Craigslist which one of the most visited calssified sites in the Internet.

Friendster may have not eneough people in its classified section but you may sometimes see what you look for.

Social networking in the internet is a big industry. You will see that the big percentage of internet users uses a social network. One of these social network is the Friendster.com. It is said that Friendster is one of pioneer in the social networking and is still running, kicking and still growing. You may ask, which country does log in more on friendster? Ok, i will give you the numbers. According to Alexa, an independent online usage research firm in the US said that Philippines is on the top spot with 38.8% of its users. Followed by Malaysia with 18.6%,the Indonesians got 14.6%, Singapore has a 14.3%, United States with 3.2%, UAE with 1.2 percent, Canada with 0.8%, United Kingdom with 0.6%, Australia with 0.5%, in Hong Kong with 0.5%, the Japanese at 0.3% and India with 0.2% respectively. With the numbers show, majority of its users is in Asia and they are still growing.

Friendster Email Updates

Recently i opened my email, i was checking for an email from a friend but there is this one email from friendster. Usually i got a friendster email regarding friend request and sharing application but as of today i receive this new email that titled Friendster Friend Update. When i opened it, i saw the same update in my Friendster account. It gives me info about my friends, on what are they doing, and their profile updates.

The conclusion is that, friendster takes one more step on informing their user on real time. I think this is a good update of friendster. Kudos to friendster. Good job.

Friendster Supports Applications for other Social Network Sites

Yes this is a bad news, Friendster has been slowly fading. Friendster slowly fades in the United States but not in other part of the world. Mainly in the Asian region. Friendster now moves as it begun letting programmers create photo-sharing applications and other programs that work on Friendster as well as rival sites.

Friendster Inc. have already said that it will support this idea. They will support this initiative, a Google Inc.-led plan called OpenSocial. But few week ago, Friendster released the software tools that let outside programmers easily adapt chats, games and other functions initially made for other online hangouts.

Friendster's use in the United States has fallen with the rise of newer online hangouts. Still, Friendster has been hot in Asia, particularly in the Philippines and other markets that the leading U.S. social networks are trying to tap as domestic online advertising growth slows down.

Facebook has yet to publicly back OpenSocial, though Facebook has had tremendous success encouraging developers to write tools specifically for it.

Other participants in OpenSocial include hi5, LinkedIn, Ning, Google's Orkut and Bebo, which Time Warner Inc.'s AOL recently bought for $850 million.

I have been a friendster user for almost 4 years now. And i have to say that it is a good and very useful site. I can communicate with my long lost friends. So i wanted to get up to date with the happenings from my friends. Now, friendster have added a new and cool feature for their users, its the Text Alerts that will enable user to receive alerts through sms and their mobile phones. In that way, they can login immediately to their accounts and view the alert and read some info. Isn't this feature so wonderful? I think it is. I will use this feature.
